Prostitution Ads on Craigslist and Moral Majority Matters

Why does society call it “adult” if adults don’t have the right to freedom and liberty in the first place? Why does any government think it has a right to “dictate” morality to the American people and treat them like they are eternal adolescents? This zealous effort on the part of government employees and law enforcement is a thinly disguised attempt to dictate more oppressive “Judeo-Christian” morality in our country that is supposed to have a separation of church and state Unfortunately plenty of people still live with the “scourge” mentality that sexual pleasure and the reality of lust is somehow sinful and evil.

The Numbers Are In, Mayoral Control Is Out: Community Members Testify Against Mayoral Control

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sun, 2010-06-20 21:43

duffer With all the hoopla in the media regarding yesterday's spectacle of a "public hearing", it's important for those who were not able to attend (after all, most people work on Friday mornings and/or afternoons or have other daytime obligations) to understand clearly what actually went down, what was said, and perhaps most importantly, who said it.

Arab lesbians Against hate say no to Sharia law in gaza

According to an investigation by The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights 87 women activists were prevented by Hamas’ Internal Security Service from leaving Gaza to attend the General Union of Palestinian Women (GUPW) conference being convened in Ramallah on the West Bank.

Hamas used the Israeli offensive on Gaza in December 2008/January 2009 to further weaken their internal political rivals. Human Rights Watch notes that, “During Israel’s attack on Gaza, Hamas moved violently against its political opponents and those deemed collaborators with Israeli forces.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
