Green Party candidate Alex White announced a "New Deal" for Rochester NY if voters elect him mayor in November.  It includes proposals to create jobs by putting local people to work, not by building buildings.  White has also called for changes in law enforcement including a new Chief of Police.

Woman Gets Anti-Semitic Hate Mail

Anti-semitic hate mail was sent to a woman after she spoke out about the Town of Greece opening its town board meetings with Christian prayer. 

"What the Fuck is the matter with you Bitch. Stay the Hell out of your town , you Jew Bitch.  Hitler should have exterminated all of you damn Jew problems, he must have missed your Jew Fucker parents," stated the letter.  "Get a LIfe you divorced old whore!  God, you are ugly bitch."  It was signed "The Man."

Rochester Rallies Against Attack on Syria

Demonstrators from across the political spectrum of left to right gathered at the Liberty Pole on August 29 to demand that the US call off its plans to bomb Syria.  Polls show that less than 10 percent of the US population supports such an attack.  Passing cars blew their horns in support of the protesters.

Lewis Powell wasn't expecting the Cowboy and his lackeys to be breaking into his legally parked car on Jefferson Avenue near Iceland Park as he looked over his shoulder around 9:00PM on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. And yet, there they were. The Cowboy was rifling through Mr. Powell's car and throwing his and his wife's possessions on the ground—including Mrs. Powell's purse, while two other officers, one white, one black—both men—stood by and watched.

 

Chili Ave. WalMart Cited for violations of Workplace Safety and Health Standards

In a press release,  the U.S. Labor Department's OSHA announcing it has cited WalMart supercenter store no. 2859 on Chili Ave in Rochester, NY for 24 "repeated and serious" violations in workplace safety and health standards.  Walmart faces a total of $365,500.  The inspection was initiated as a response to a complaint.

Judge Miller Passes the Buck on Benny Warr

On July 26, 2013, Benny Warr was in court before Judge Stephen T. Miller. Specifically, the judge was ruling on motions to dismiss the charges filed by Mr. Warr's attorney, Charles F. Burkwit. The two motions presented were dismissing the charges in the furtherance of justice and dismissing the charges because the informations were defective. The judge seemed to build up his ruling by reading what it meant to dismiss the charges legally.

Utica, New York.  Today about 20 local citizens participated in a protest to show support for the more than 12,000 prisoners in California who have entered their fifth day of a hunger strike in a push to end long-term solitary confinement, which they call a form of "indefinite state-sanctioned torture." Occupy Utica, Incarcerated Flavors, and the Central New York Citizens in Action, Inc. sponsored the local protest, which was held Friday, July 12 at 5:00 p.m. in front of the State Office Building on Genesee Street, outside the Parole Office.

As the crowd surrounding the New York State Capitol building for the June 17th New York Crossroads Hydro Fracking Rally in Albany, NY grew in numbers so too did the volume level and diversity in backgrounds, professions and messages of attendees. The atmosphere and chants heard echoing throughout the Capitol square coalesced in one clear message: No to Hydraulic Fracturing in New York State, Yes to alternative energy technologies. The former message could be gathered by mere observance of the signs and symbolism illustrated by the crowd. The latter became more clear and cohesive as attendees and keynote speakers demonstrated the implications that “fracking” policy in New York State holds not only for the region and the nation but more pressingly for global water systems. Undoubtedly, the direction we take in terms of energy policy in the United States often sets longstanding precedents domestically and internationally.
