Photos from the 2012 St Patrick's Day parade in Rochester NY.  Global warming was in effect as It was sunny and 67 degrees F. Very unlike March in Rochester.  Authorities estimate 200,000 people came out.

This contract was obtained through Rochester, NY's freedom of information act; it is the contract between the city and Redflex--the company that the city contracted with to install and monitor red-light cameras. In the U.S., Redflex is based out of Phoenix, AZ.

The agreement was entered into on December 23, 2009.

After initially ignoring Occupy Wall St last September, the corporate media tended to report mostly on the lack of focus and organization of the occupy movement. An oft-heard refrain coming out of media outlets in those early days was; “What are the demands?” Suggesting that the tens of thousands of people out in the streets at Occupy encampments and demonstrations were there because there was nothing better to do. As the occupations lasted into the winter, another phase of corporate reporting started declaring the movement dead, a blast of activity now fizzling away. Many of us are familiar with this sort of dismissive reporting about peoples’ movements.   I'm afraid Davy V’s opinion piece falls into a similar pattern.

Oatka Cemetery—the Monroe County cemetery for the poor and homeless—is about 15 miles from downtown Rochester, NY. Three of us took a drive down Scottsville Road past the airport, past R.I.T., into the country, and finally through the Village of Scottsville to a small cemetery known as a “potter's field.”

Citizens Against Police Brutality & Misconduct (C.A.P.B.M.) President--Theodore “Teddy” Loria filed a sixth (6th) lawsuit against the City of Rochester on November 7, 2011, and subsequently a federal petition in December 2011.

Loria has successfully sued the City of Rochester and the Rochester Police Department four separate times in federal court back in the 1990’s for violating his civil rights. Loria currently has a fifth (5th) lawsuit pending in federal court in addition with his sixth lawsuit.

Rochester, NY — Today at about 1:00pm members of Occupy Rochester filed a lawsuit in State Supreme Court against the City of Rochester. The lawsuit asks for the court to enforce the contract between the City and Occupy Rochester and to order the City not to remove the protesters. Members of Occupy Rochester will be available for comment at 5:30 pm at Washington Square Park.

As a filmmaker and writer, I am very passionate about my work exposing issues such as police brutality and misconduct. However, when it comes to me supporting a movement or a cause, I really need to believe in it before jumping on board. Maybe it's because my experiences have shaped and molded me into being a little skeptic about people's intentions and motivations when it comes to a specific cause or a movement.

Rally Targets Verizon's Tax Dodging

A rally was held at a local verizon location to bring attention to Verizon's abysmal record of paying state and federal income taxes.  Despite Verizon making profits of $33.4 billion between 2008-2010, Verizon paid only $866 million in NYS taxes or a rate of 2.6% and actually received a $951 million rebate from the federal government or a rate of -2.9%.  If Verizon had paid the basic NYS income tax rate, they would have paid an additional $1.5 billion to the state between 2008-2010.

 

Band of Rebels Targets Corporate Welfare Recepients

Band of Rebels has joined forces with Metro Justice in targeting corporations who have received giveaways from taxpayers and paid little or no taxes.  Few if any new jobs were actually created and those that were were done at considerably higher cost than that of paying the workers directly.
