After writing an essay about Frederick Douglass and drawing comparison between Douglass' experiences and that of Black RCSD students, 13-year-old Jada Williams says she was harassed by teachers who said they were "offended" by her essay.
Within a week of turning in her essay Jada, an "A" student, began to see her grades plummet. "We started receiving bad reports from her teachers," says her mother, Carla. "All of a sudden I started getting calls at home and at work from her teachers implying that Jada is a problem student and the principal of the school was going to put her on In-School-Suspension (ISS)."
