Pressure on Region’s House Democrats to Back Health Care Overhaul

November 23, 2009
Pressure on Region’s House Democrats to Back Health Care Overhaul
By RAYMOND HERNANDEZ

Union-backed groups are pressuring a handful of renegade House Democrats from New York and New Jersey to back the party’s efforts to overhaul the health care system.

The organizations — including the Communications Workers of America and the Working Families Party — say they are disappointed that these lawmakers voted against the bill approved by the House this month and left open the possibility that they could withhold political support from them or even actively oppose them in

U.S. Needs Health Care, Not Insurance

Albuquerque Journal
Sunday, November 15, 2009

A very complex, mandatory private insurance scheme recently passed the U.S. House. The public is being overwhelmed by sound bites on one hand about how great it is, on the other, how terrible. We are hearing few of the details that are actually in the bill. Having read the bill, it is clear now that what started as health reform has emerged from the political process as health "deform," building on the worst, not the best of the current system.

Support the War: Screw the Troops

"Those wars which Sen. Coburn was perfectly happy to vote to pay for with absolutely no explanation of how we would cover those costs created 1.7 million new American veterans. He is now on principle not willing to pay for taking care of those veterans."

I'm a proud, angry whiner over Health care bill and Stupak-Pitts amendment

Obama's field organizer for the Rochester area, sent out a e mail telling people that don't support the HR3962, that they are whiners. At a previous gathering, he made a comment that pro choice advocates in the same category as people who said that the bill created "death panels". I guess he was right, this bill will continue to let people die and women have lost more rights. Good job Democrats, you sure are changing things.

AMA Wants the Government to Review Marijuana's Schedule I Status

"Results of short term controlled trials indicate that smoked cannabis reduces neuropathic pain, improves appetite and caloric intake especially in patients with reduced muscle mass, and may relieve spasticity and pain in patients with multiple sclerosis. However, the patchwork of state-based systems that have been established for .medical marijuana. is woefully inadequate in establishing even rudimentary safeguards that normally would be applied to the appropriate clinical use of psychoactive substances. The future of cannabinoid-based medicine lies in the rapidly evolving field of botanical drug substance development, as well as the design of molecules that target various aspects of the endocannabinoid system. To the extent that rescheduling marijuana out of Schedule I will benefit this effort, such a move can be supported."

Greens urge defeat of Dems' 'phony reform' health bill in the Senate, seek a rally of efforts for Single-Payer‏

Greens urge defeat of the Democrats' "insurance industry life-support" bill in the US Senate and call for a rally of efforts to enact Single-Payer/Medicare For All

• The US House bill passed on Saturday favors the insurance industry over Americans who need medical care; no heath care reform bill should be enacted that doesn't allow states to enact Single-Payer, say Greens, who slam House Democrats for killing a vote on Single-Payer last week
