Monday 3/22 4-6pm… Let’s Show Up Rochester!

Monday 3/22 4-6pm… Let’s Show Up Rochester!

The City has partnered with C&S Companies to analyze and make recommendations to enhance commuting, circulation, and parking in Downtown Rochester. Among the potential enhancements under consideration is a circulator transit service—a.k.a shuttle buses or streetcars. Listen carefully Rochester…

The potential rewards and benefits of a circulator are enormous. Giving people the ability to move between points of interest without being tied to an automobile will make our region a more attractive location for businesses, residents, and visitors. According to the Center for Transportation Excellence a $10 million investment in public transportation typically results in a $30 million gain in sales for local businesses and more than 570 jobs are created.

Sierra Club Transportation meeting

Most people hop into their vehicles for destinations only six miles from their home. Imagine the environmental relief from greenhouse gas emissions and energy conservation if, instead, folks used alternative transportation modes. That’s the sort of thing we are working on at the Rochester Sierra Club.

Rochester Bus Driver Solidarity Action Call Out

Bus drivers in Rochester have been working without solid contracts for the past three years and are organizing to stop this. They have been met with not only a refusal of contacts but also cut backs in their benefits, such as the length of break time.
They have asked us to demonstrate in solidarity with them in front of the downtown bus terminal on E. Main street from 11am until 1pm on Thursday July 3rd.
An injury to one is an injury to all.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
