Sierra Club Transportation meeting

Most people hop into their vehicles for destinations only six miles from their home. Imagine the environmental relief from greenhouse gas emissions and energy conservation if, instead, folks used alternative transportation modes. That’s the sort of thing we are working on at the Rochester Sierra Club.

Please consider attending a Sierra Club steering committee on Transportation at the Brighton Memorial Library, 2300 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester NY 14618, in the main meeting room, on Wednesday, February, 24th at 7PM. This meeting is Free and Open to all Sierra Club members and members of the public interested in our region’s transportation issues.

Much has been going on in the last year with alternative transportation in our area and we need Sierra Club members and interested parties to help us sort out the details and provide help for various projects. Instrumental to realizing many of the wonderful transportation options in our area is advocacy to pressure governments, the media, and businesses to consider the environmental (greenhouse gas emissions, green jobs, land, water, and air pollution ) components of any transportation option in the future.

We need people who know how to write, how to listen, how to make presentations, speak to groups, promote events, organize, and care about our local transportation future.

Some of the background material for the Sierra Club’s Transportation issue, you can find here: http://newyork.sierraclub.org/rochester/Transportation/Transportation.html We are considering everything from walking school buses, bicycling, bike week (May 17-21), electric cars, electric motorcycle, biodiesel, ethanol, hybrid electric, hydrogen fuel cells, bicycle boulevards, mass transit, light rail, to high-speed rail.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
