NorthEast Anarchist Network: "Direct Action = Solidarity. Confront the Bankers in April!"

The NorthEast Anarchist Network is endorsing the "Self Described Anarchist Collective" and Global Justice Action calls for a diversity of tactics, including direct action, to disrupt the Spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington, DC. Even in this era of uncontrolled economic retraction and collapse, the IMF and World Bank continue to reach for their misleading, self-proclaimed objective of "eradicating poverty", while paradoxically ignoring the needs of poor and indigenous communities.

Is Frankenfood Planting the Seeds of Starvation?

Can a form of life be patented? Should it? What if it is something essential for human survival? This might sound like a debate from Star Trek or an academic project for ethics class. But in the case of Genetically Modified food, the answer has already been decided to be “yes.” According to its creators, huge agribusinesses like Monsanto, GM food allows crops to withstand harsher conditions and stronger pesticides than natural varieties.

"Eco-terrorist" Jeff Luers prison interview

"Many people cannot begin to grasp the violent life of a max security prison. The threat of death is in the air everyday. I lived that life without cowering from it. When threatened with violence I responded in kind. When threatened with being stabbed I had my own shank to turn to."

(Florida) Earth First Activists given Jail time for February ‘08 civil disobedience action against West County Energy Center.

Marie Zwicker, West Palm Beach, Fla.
By now some of you may have already heard about the travesty of justice that occurred Tuesday at the sentencing of seven environmental activists in the courtroom of Judge Laura Johnson in West Palm Beach. Shock and disbelief are words which would describe how those of us who were present in the courtroom felt at the sentencing. What was done today, if unchallenged, sets a very dangerous precedent for what activists can expect from some in the "justice" system. This should be of very great concern to all those who believe in and speak out for human rights, social justice, environmental protection, Indigenous sovereignty, labor rights, animal rights, peace, or any of the issues that we hold so dear.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
