Shareholders were given small dividend checks based on a percentage of how much money they spent at Abundance from 2008-2009. Some shareholders were not interested in this and would rather give workers a living wage. Therefore, they pooled their checks and redistributed the money to 15 workers in the store who make between $7.25 and $8. Abundance Cooperative Market is a democratic consumer coop with democratic machinery as written in the bylaws.</p>
