On April 10, 2010, former employees, shareholders, customers, and concerned community members, entered Abundance Cooperative Market for a celebration of Abundance workers complete with balloons, noise makers, cake, and a living wage resolution that was submitted to the board of directors. Shareholders were given small dividend checks based on a percentage of how much money they spent at Abundance from 2008-2009. Some shareholders were not interested in this and would rather give workers a living wage. Therefore, they pooled their checks and redistributed the money to 15 workers in the store who make between $7.25 and $8. Abundance Cooperative Market is a democratic consumer coop with democratic machinery as written in the bylaws.
