New York civil rights law section 50-a provides blanket exclusion from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) for ANY police department documents that could potentially be used to evaluate an officer.
The teach-in will start at 8pm. Specifically, we're going to go over the history of 50-a, what it does, and how it prevents police accountability. We're also going to show attendees one of our projects--the People's Database of Police Misconduct and Brutality--for Rochester, NY. This is the start of a map showing the patterns and practices of police violence in Rochester.
So come at 7:00pm for the "Fire the Cops" reading group introductory meeting (see that event here: https://www.facebook.com/
