Video Reportback: Anti-Eviction Protest on S. Goodman Street!

Take Back the Land - Rochester called on the community to protest Fannie Mae's move to evict five people from a house in Rochester and render them homeless. Despite many attempts, the government-backed corporate bank has refused to negotiate with the tenants of 820 South Goodman Ave. Despite Fannie Mae's $90 billion bailout from the government to help keep people in their houses, Fannie Mae is still putting people out on the street.

Exorcism Versus America’s Naïve Movie Industry (alternative movie review: The Rite):

Demonic “possession” is not necessarily a phenomenon that must be based on Christian beliefs in the supernatural; because to be “possessed” is to be unduly “influenced” by that which is not in the self’s best interest. If you believe in deliberately created lies fed to you by a secretly funded think tank, and you vote for someone who misrepresents his real aims—then technically you are “possessed” by influences inimical to your best interests. Plenty of people are potentially possessed of false beliefs. And therefore exorcism is not some lost and outdated art. It is in need more than ever, and not by the Catholic Church so much, as by the body politic at large.

Screening of July '64

The documentary July '64 is a documentary portraying the urban disturbances that took part in Rochester in 1964 over a three night period. Fueled by racism, lack of decent housing, lack of job opportunity, and police mistreatment, on an extremely hot, humid night, many of the citizens of color in the city declared they had had enough. Director Carvin Eison, using actual footage and present day interviews, takes the viewer vividly through this event.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
