happy

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the 10-year Indymedia Anniversary Gathering in Troy, NY.

Ten years ago this month, thousands of peaceful protesters faced down a massive paramilitary force in Seattle—successfully preventing the World Trade Organization from meeting and marking a new era of resistance to corporate globalization.

Remembering All the Casualties of War This Veterans Day

On this Veterans Day, let us remember the soldiers and veterans that have died from injuries sustained in war, but go unacknowledged. I am speaking of the thousands of men and women who have taken their own lives as a result of the US government sending them to war, often repeatedly.

Beyond the Rhetoric: The Human Realities of the Israeli Occupation

While the White House is paying increasing attention to a 'Middle East Peace Process', and politicians in Israel delay comprehensive peace talks, the reality of the on-going Israeli Occupation has been all but lost in sound bites. Bekah Wolf, who has lived the last 3 years in the Occupied West Bank and is the International Coordinator for the Palestine Solidarity Project, is going on her third nationwide speaking tour, bringing an eyewitness' accounts, along with a critical analysis of the realities of Israeli occupation in 2009 and what they mean in an international context, especially in regards to the recent UN fact-finding mission headed by international jurist Richard Goldstone, the prospects for renewed three-party negotiations, and the upsurge in the international Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaigns.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
