<div class="FormInput" id="Description">On June 8th-10th, 2012, Rochester Indymedia a/k/a Rochester Independent Media Center a/k/a R-IMC, held its ten year anniversary. Transforming Media: A Weekend of Education, Mobilization, and Networking was a celebration and a convergence to get people excited about independent media and Indymedia in particular.</div><div class="FormInput"> </div><div class="FormInput"><a href="http://blip.tv/indy-tv/indy-tv-19-interview-with-frank-lopez-aka-the-stimulator-1570068">Franklin Lopez</a>, the creator and voice behind The Stimulator and "<a href="http://blip.tv/its-the-end-of-the-world">It's the END of the WORLD as we KNOW it and I feel fine</a>" and the creator of <a href="http://www.submedia.tv/">SubMedia.TV</a>, gave a special 10 minute congratulatory address to the attendees of the celebration and conference. June 2012 completes Rochester Indymedia's first decade as an organization, and to celebrate we're hosting a conference that you won't want to miss. We have many exciting and thought-provoking sessions lined up, as well as space on the schedule for you to set up your own workshop/panel. The weekend will facilitate new directions for peoples’ media, as well as facilitate collaborations between media makers and activist groups. You will walk away with a better understanding of the media landscape, practical skills for media creation, and new relationships to build on.</p><p>The Arab Spring, the Greek and Spanish Uprisings, and the Occupy Movement represent an awakening of Peoples' Movements on a global level. New media formats, Facebook, Livestream, Twitter, as well as experiments in direct democracy raise important questions for activists and independent journalists. There are liberatory aspects to these technologies, but serious challenges as well.
