UNICEF Kills Indian Children with Vaccines
Primary tabs
31 children died in Assam after they were administered vitamin A vaccines
in what doctors described as a case of gross negligence.
The case was tried in the Guwahati High Court and the verdict said there
was negligence involved. Chief Justice Navekar and Justice Salkia issued
the ruling which said that the administration of vaccines led to the
death of more than thirty children in November 2001.
Compensation was ordered to be paid at the rate of 20,000 rupees in
addition to the 5,000 rupees already paid to the families of each
dead child. The Assam government has agreed to abide by this ruling.
