On September 3, 2003 charges that had been filed against a number of peace acivists were dismissed. <!--break--> Rochester. In March of 2003 several peace protesters were arrested in front of the Kenneth Keating Federal Building in Rochester, New York while praying for peace. The protesters were trying to bring attention to the horror & destruction brought about as a result of the war against Iraq. Dozens of people rallied in support of Peace activists Gail Mott, Sister Grace and others at the Hall of Justice before the hearing. While their team of lawyers huddled to discuss strategy in advance of the proceedings the sizeable crowd of friends offered words of support to the accused. Onlookers to the proceedings were allowed to enter the courtroom in small groups due to the unusual size of the crowd leaving the deputy on duty at the door a bit overwhelmed. Charges against the Peace activists were dismissed when the arresting officer failed to appear in court today. There was some disappointment in the crowd when the news was announce. The activists were hoping to make their case against the war in court. Similar legal defenses were mounted by Peace activists during the Viet Nam war & World War II. A number of other Peace activists have yet to appear in court. Hearings have been scheduled in September & in October. The outcome of those cases was not resolved at today's hearing.
