Students and Community Members Halt Anti-Choice March
Primary tabs
The Students for a Democratic Society Rochester Chapter organized a demonstration to counter a anti choice march. Community members from different organizations including the Anti War Network, Rochester Indy Media and ISO also participated in the counter demonstration.
A group calling themselves Silent No More, which is made up of women who have had abortions and are now anti-choice, organized a march from a local church to Planned Parenthood on University Ave. The counter demonstrators holding pro choice signs, singing and chanting stood in front of Planned Parenthood. When the marchers arrived at the driveway of Planned Parenthood, there was a standoff due to the pro-choice demonstrators on the other side of the driveway. It appeared to this writer that the anti choice marchers were not sure what to do when they came upon the counter demonstration. The anti choice marchers never made it across the driveway to Planned Parenthood and after about an hour and a half of standing around and praying they dispersed. One corporate media station arrived about an hour after the initial standoff to cover the protests.
