TRANS 101/Anti-Transphobia Workshop
Sunday, October 16 · 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Flying Squirrel Community Space
285 Clarissa St.
Rochester, NY

Many people, including those who run in activist/anti-oppression circles, are largely entirely unaware or only peripherally aware of transgender issues. As a result, many trans* people feel alienated from these communities, even though, logically, it seems we should all be standing together in solidarity to end ALL forms of oppression.

In this workshop, our goals will be:
1) To break down cis-centric models of thinking about gender/sex.
2) Share our knowledge of transgender history, terminology, etiquette, and issues (legal, medical, economic, and social).
3) Discuss ways in which we can understand and unpack cis privilege and take direct steps to create community spaces that are more inclusive toward trans* and gender-nonconforming people.

We will have time for questions and open discussion.

We'll also have some snacks/refreshments!

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
