Prosecutors say Nelson has a history of violence toward men. In 1990, just one year before she savagely murdered her husband, she was convicted of assaulting an ex-boyfriend, Robert Hannson of Huntington Beach, by tying him up and demanding money at gunpoint.

Orange County prosecutors will argue at a parole hearing on Wednesday that Omaima Aree Nelson, the ex-model who murdered her husband then cooked and ate his body parts two decades ago, has not reformed and should remain behind bars. Nelson, who has been behind bars at California Central Women’s Prison in Chowchilla for 20 years, is asking for early release from her 27-year sentence for the 1991 murder of her husband William E. Nelson, 56.

Nelson was the first defendant in Orange County who used a "battered wife" defense, saying that she was raped the night before she murdered her husband. Jurors deliberated for six days before rejecting her defense. Due to a lack of premeditation, the murder was deemed second-degree.

Nelson also bit a security guard's breast and had several run-ins during her current prison sentence. Orange County Senior Deputy Dist. Atty. Randolph J. Pawloski, the veteran prosecutor who sent her to prison, says she has behaved since 2006 after denied early release.

Adding to the prosecutors' case, Nelson has declined prison self-help programs, failed to admit to drug and alcohol problems, has a callous disregard for others and remains a risk to the community. "She should be kept in prison for the maximum denial period," Pawloski said, according to L.A. Now.
