Who IS commanding the West Patrol Division of the Rochester Police Department?

The coppers say they don't like anarchy--yet anarchy seems to be running a muck in the RPD!

Rochester Indymedia heard a rumor that Patrol Division West commander for the Rochester Police Department, Samuel A. Farina Jr., was fired over the bungling of the eviction at 9 Ravenwood Ave., the arrest of Emily Good, and the pink ruler fiasco at the Flying Squirrel Community Space where Good supporters were ticketed for parking more than 12" away from the curb.

A city council-member hinted that Farina may have lead the operation against peaceful demonstrators on October 7, 2009 where 12 were arrested, 2 were hospitalized, and over 50 officers responded to the assault on nonviolent protesters by police.

Farina, appointed as Commander of Patrol Division West in February of 2011, "formerly served as Deputy Chief of Operations and as Commander of the Special Operations Division," according to the RPD NEWS for March 2011. He joined the force in 2008.

We decided to call the City of Rochester to get the scoop. The 3-1-1 operator said that there are lots of commanders and asked if there was one in particular we were looking for. We said no, but that we wanted to know who was running the Patrol Division West. She said no one. We then called Patrol Division West and found out that Farina--the former commander of Patrol Division West--was "no longer with the city," according to the person who answered the phone.

We were told that Tim List was in the position of Deputy Chief for the week and had been switched from commander of Patrol Division East to commander of Patrol Division West, but there was uncertainty from the person on the phone even about that. Patrol Division East didn't pick up their phone and we were shunted to another line where an officer answered.

Upon asking who was in charge of Patrol Division East, the officer replied, "there's been some movement in the police department--I'm not sure who's in charge."

We then tried the Chief's office where we were put on hold. The chief's office said they didn't know and we were told to check with the division office. We were then transferred back to Patrol Division East where no one answered.

The Rochester Police Department's website (as of now) shows that Tim List is commander of Patrol Division East, while there is no photo or name of the commander for Patrol Division West. So, in conclusion, anarchy has traveled from west to east, and no one seems to have any answers.
