On Sept. 11, her son Stephen was killed in the South tower of the World Trade Center, where he worked. He died with his colleagues in a conference room on the 89th floor, where before the building collapsed, they shared a single cell phone to place calls and leave messages of love to those they knew they would be leaving behind.
