Indymedia journalist's statement to channel 8

A response to Channel 8 request for a comment on death threats that some Rochester police have allegedly received.

"I was concerned, but not surprised to hear about the alleged death threats that some Rochester police officers have been receiving around this case. Rochester Indymedia editorial policy states: "The IMC newswire is not intended to be a forum for publicizing hate nor for making direct threats against individuals, groups or classes of people." People are very upset about police abuse and misconduct both within in the RPD and around the country. It is the responsibility of the police department to behave lawfully and to uphold constitutional rights. This specific situation is an opportunity for members of the police force and city officials to engage in discussions that de-escalate and address residents concerns around police misconduct. Unfortunately, thus far, instead of taking responsibility for the illegal arrest shown in the video, the RPD have been using intimidation tactics in an attempt to silence concerned community members."

Dawn Zuppelli

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
