Let's Debate: D & C uses "parent" voice of Carrie Remis, and Irondequoit woman with ties to rightwing education groups to counter Rochester parent and community resolution of No Confidence in Superintendent Brizard <!--break--> Dear Ms. Remis, I’m reaching out to you regarding your statement, in which reporter Tiffany Lankes identified you as a parent with an opposing view, in yesterday’s Democrat and Chronicle on the parent and community no confidence resolution regarding Superintendent Brizard. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20110202/NEWS01/102020344/1003 It is quite profound that the only “parent†voice that could be found to support city schools Superintendent Brizard was that of an Irondequoit woman with ties to rightwing education campaigns. (Some of us city parents participated in a lively blog regarding the groups behind the screening of The Cartel which you led a few weeks back..) http://flowercityparents.org/forum/index.php?topic=1987.0;topicseen I am a parent member of the Community Education Task Force, one of the member organizations of Parent and Community Coalition for Educational Change. We come from opposite perspectives regarding how to move forward with making fundamental, urgently needed educational changes. I firmly believe that the best way forward emerges from open dialogue and from access to all relevant information. In that spirit, I would like to propose a “Parents Debate†on how to improve RCSD, suggesting that you and I each choose another parent to join us in a two on two dialogue as soon as possible. I’m open to collaborating with you on the details, but I feel it is absolutely essential that you come out in the open and dialogue with us city parents now that you have asserted your position as a parent voice in opposition to the work we are doing. By the way, I have never heard of the Parent Power Project and did not have any luck with google, nor were any of my community group friends or city parent leaders I know able to fill me in. Can you refer me to your website or that of your affiliate(s)? I look forward to your response. Mary Adams
