• Conference on Liberation, featuring activists and organizers in immigrant rights, labor, anti-war, and anti-police struggles. Sponsored by the ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) and the Party for Socialism and Liberation. <!--break--> Unemployment, evictions and foreclosures, racist police brutality, ICE raids, and endless war: this is the daily reality facing poor and working people in Syracuse and across the country. While misery and poverty are increasing for the vast majority of us, U.S. corporations have just had their most profitable quarter ever. The gap between the haves and... the have-nots continues to increase. The bottom 50% of income-earners in this country now own less than 1% of the national wealth. At the same time, 83% of all U.S. stocks are in the hands of the richest 1%. The culprit is capitalism, a system in which the banks, corporations, and landlords profit off of misery and exploitation. The time to organize and fight back is now! Join us on February 12 for the Syracuse Conference on Liberation. Find out about struggles taking place in Syracuse, what socialism is, what we aim for, and how you can join the struggle for revolutionary change. Guest speakers include: * Eugene Puryear, 2008 Vice Presidential candidate of the PSL! * General Davis, Youth organizer and former leader of the Corleones gang * Luz Encarnacion, President of the League of United Latin American Citizens in Syracuse, NY * Sarah Sloan, National Staff organizer for the ANSWER Coalition in Washington D.C * Rebecca Fuentes, Immigrant rights activist * Percy Bivins, Pastor of the Lighthouse of Love Ministries * Jose Perez, Board member of the League of United Latin American Citizens * … and more! Topics include: * What is socialism? Is it possible in the United States? * Fighting racist police brutality and the prison-industrial complex * The struggle for full rights for all immigrants and workers * The struggle to stop racist ICE raids and Secured Communities legislation * Women & revolutionary leadership * The oppression and resistance of Asian Americans and Native Americans * Why we need a revolutionary, working-class Party * What a people’s government would look like Pre-Register at www.pslweb.org/syracuse For more information call: (315) 491-6987 or e-mail syracuse@PSLweb.org Donation of $10 is requested, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning. We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site. Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
