The Rev. Raymond Graves, an outspoken community activist and a frequent critic of police, school and other Rochester institutions, died Wednesday at Highland Hospital after a long illness. He was 82.
The Rev. Graves was a past president of the United Church Ministries and spent more than 40 years as a minister at the New Bethel CME Church on Scio Street.
"His greatest impact was to bring to light any injustice that was done," said Shirley Billups-Bell, current president of UCM. "What people didn't know about Rev. Graves was that it didn't matter what color you were, whether you were Hispanic or Caucasian, the way he felt was that an injustice done to one was an injustice done to all."
