Candidate for Governor to Bring Plan for Prosperity to Rochester
(Rochester, NY) Green Party candidate for Governor, Howie Hawkins will be at the Rochester Public Market Saturday at 10 am to explain to voters and members of the press his plan for prosperity. Hawkins will entertain questions from the press at the Railroad Street entrance in between explaining to voters at the Market how the major candidates may be in mainstream political parties, but that he has mainstream ideas in solving our state’s fiscal mess.
Hawkins, an overnight UPS worker from Syracuse, was recently in Utica where he pledged to strengthen New York's urban areas with a massive public jobs program; strong tenant rights and affordable housing; increased funding for child care, education and other essential services; and enactment of a state single payer Medicare for All program. All of this to be funded by returning the state tax structure to a more fair, progressive one.
Hawkins and the Green Party started out with a goal of 50,000 votes in this year’s election in order to secure ballot status for the next 4 years. But his success in debates at Hofstra University and in Henrietta last week has led them to change their goal to become the third largest political party with 200,000 votes.
“Howie continues to win voters everyday by explaining how as Governor, he will turn a $9 billion deficit into a multibillion dollar surplus; then use that money to create a Green New Deal and fully fund schools,†said Dave Atias, a local Green Party organizer. “I haven’t seen a voter yet hear his ideas and decide not to vote for him.â€
Hawkins will also explain at the Public Market just how Andrew Cuomo’s plan for New York will only bring more misery to most, while further enriching those who don’t pay their fair share already.
