Criteria for cosposnorhsip would be "do they have a list to invite." It is a little bit late for organizations w/monthly newsletters, but religious congregations w/weekly bulletins or groups w/e-mail lists would be great. - Mel will follow up w/ Metrojustice, UU's, GEM, Temple Sinai, Heidi w/ League of Women Voters, GRCC, Spiritus Christi, & Calvary St. Andrews, and Mary w/DUPC - Mel will call libraries to see what they can offer. - Posters - Mary and Heidi have been working on creating Posters/Flyers. Help is needed w/ bulk mailing beginning Tuesday 05/27. blurb: GVC NYCLU is seeking cosponsors for a community forum and panel discussion "Can We Be Safe and Free" on provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act and related executive orders and legislation since 9/11 that may have an impact on our civil liberties. Currently cosponsoring are Metrojustice, the Social Action Committee of Temple B'rith Kodesh, and the Third Presbyterian Church. The panel will feature well known Republican Attorney William Nojay and Genesee Valley Chapter New York Civil Liberties Union Counsel Scott Forsyth. WXXI radio host Bob Smith will moderate. The panelists will consider the necessity of increased surveillance, regulation of dissent, and increased government secrecy, to the "War on Terrorism". Among topics to be addressed may be unlawful detentions, secret hearings and deportations with no access to attorneys, blanket access to personal records, Total Information Awareness Program, bypassing Congress and the courts, dragnet roundups of Middle Easterners, treatment of enemy combatants, "Sneak and peek" searches, electronic surveillance, and surveillance of political and religious meetings. The forum will be held on Thursday, June 19, 7:30 p.m. at Temple Brith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Avenue in Brighton. Summer Festivals & Outdoor Events Speaking engagements are down w/ groups not meeting over the summer. We thought we would try tabling and lefletting @ summer festivals and outdoor events. - Heidi will contact Corn Hill. update: this is July 12/13 -- 10-6 & 10-5, tables are free for non-profits, they do not allow leafleting to passersby. we are working on getting the insurance coverage through NYCLU. Corn Hill cannot gurantee they will be able to fit us in. - Mel will contact Park Ave. - county fairs, concerts, any other ideas? Don't forget to standby during the Bob Smith show 06/19 at 1 p.m. to call in questions, and to push attendance at the forum. -- Heidi Siegfried, Esq.
