Protest at the Federal Building
SEIZE BP'S ASSETS NOW!
Part of National Days of Action

Friday, June 11 @ 5:30 pm
Federal Building
100 S. Clinton st (Clinton and Washington)
Syracuse, NY 13261

The Seize BP Campaign has called for National Days of Action from Thursday, June 3 to Friday, June 11. Demonstrations are taking place in more than 50 cities across the country. The response has been amazing. People across the country are mobilizing to take to the streets to demand: Seize BP!

It is now clear that BP is incapable of solving the crisis, and oil will continue to gush until at least August. BP and the government are stalling, but the people of the Gulf coast and the environment can't wait. The time to take action is now!

Among the cities that are holding protests this week are Atlanta, GA.; Tampa, FL; Irving, TX; St. Joseph, Michigan; Front Royal and Virginia Beach, VA; Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego and many more.
Seize BP Placard thumb - Seize BP's assets
This past weekend, we launched the movement in Syracuse with a forum called "BP's Gulf of Mexico Disaster: Who will pay the price?" Activists and organizers from Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD, and Syracuse, NY spoke. YNN, Central New York's 24-hour news station covered the event and featured the segment all day on Sunday. It can be seen here.

This Friday, June 11 we'll protest at the Federal Building in downtown Syracuse. We will be demanding that the Federal government seize BP's assets and place them in trust to provide immediate relief to workers and communities in the Gulf states. The people impacted by the disaster should be in charge of administering compensation, not Big Oil millionaires.

Be a part of this movement and help it grow! Go to SeizeBP.org and sign the petition. Get involved and organize an action today.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
