Green Fair at Rochester Baha'i Center
Primary tabs
As part of their monthly "Unity Night" event, the Rochester Bahá'à community will be hosting a Green Fair on June 5th beginning at 6 pm and ending around sunset. The event will take place in the gardens behind the Rochester Bahá'à Center, 693 East Avenue, with parking in the lot on Oxford Street. This is the first event of this kind but we hope to make it an annual event. We normally have about 60 attendees at Unity Night.
I would like to invite you to participate in this event, the purpose of which is to inspire individuals to take a step towards conservation and away from consumption. This is NOT an event where goods and services will be overtly sold although I see nothing wrong with a more private exchange of this nature. This is an event where enthusiastic people encourage others to try something different in regards to their relationship with natural resources.
So far, the following elements will be present at the Green Fair:
- our usual pot-luck dinner
- two different Earth-friendly art activities for children of all ages
- an avid composter and her worms
- a "make and take" station where you can whip up green cleaning products and then take them home to try them; "recipes" included!
- a sorting game where (play) food and various other throwaway items can be sorted into composting, recycling, and garbage bins. This will help people understand monroe county's recycling rules...and how little actually needs to go into the landfill!
- a representative from the city chicken club to bring their chickens and answer questions about raising chickens in the city (still need to find this willing soul)
- a perennial plant trade
- Bahá'à quotes related to the environment
- an idea board for greening up the Bahá'à Center along with a table for sharing information
- music
These are all the ideas so far and I am excited to hear yours.
