Kudos to our source in Washington D.C. for pointing out a little-noticed news item in The Washington Post some time back indicating there was an FBI probe when a purported associate of Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) allegedly stalked Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.). The news apparently never made it into the Chicago papers. Hmm. We wonder why the papers here are so timid about this hot story? <!--break--> Jackson’s ‘Hit Man’ Stalked Another Congressman 7 Hours, 26 Minutes ago Karma: 0 Kudos to our source in Washington D.C. for pointing out a little-noticed news item in The Washington Post some time back indicating there was an FBI probe when a purported associate of Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) allegedly stalked Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.). The news apparently never made it into the Chicago papers. Hmm. We wonder why the papers here are so timid about this hot story? See,http://blog.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2007/08/third_party_enters_spat_betwee.html The news organization reported that “a House floor spat between Reps. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) and Lee Terry (R-Neb.) has officially gotten out of hand. The FBI is now investigating a third party's involvement in the spat. A man claiming to be a relative of Jackson walked into Terry's Omaha office last Friday and said he was ‘Jesse Jackson's (Jr.) hitman,’ a spokeswoman says. The spokeswoman says the unidentified man told the receptionist "that he'd like to beat up Congressman Terry." '‘These were inappropriate comments and the office contacted the Capitol Police after the man left,’' she said, adding, The incident was referred to the FBI. The man was described as five feet nine inches tall, white and in his early 50's, according to a local Omaha TV station. The bizarre incident came just days after Jackson - a black belt in martial arts - and Terry - not a black belt - nearly came to blows on the House floor in the incredibly contentious final hours before Congress adjourned for August recess. The two of them never did ‘take it outside’ as Jackson had suggested.†The Washington Post never ran a follow up. We wonder what ever became of Junior’s, ahem, associate? We hope he’s not working on Junior’s congressional staff, collecting a taxpayer-financed salary, and thumbing his nose at law enforcement. We would also like to see Junior publicly denounce this kind of conduct against his political opponents. But with The Washington Post this weekend indicating that more ethics charges against Junior were being investigated by the Congress, we have doubts he will do so. That's the Chicago Way.
