World Hoop Day 09-09-09 7 pm at the big pavilion/Roundhouse in Genesee Valley Park <!--break--> We've been meeting since April, every Wednesday, in Genesee Valley Park, to hoop, and it's been great! But this particular Wednesday, 09-09-09, WORLD HOOP DAY will be different. In addition to longer hooping time, and a potluck picnic, we'll be collecting donations for the World Hoop Day charity. World Hoop Day celebrations/fundraisers will be happening in other cities too on this day. So come hoop with us! There are plenty of hoops to share, so don't stress if you don't own your own hoop. Never hooped? Give it a whirl! We'll help you get started. These aren't light, small little kid hoops. These are handmade, heavier, adult-sized hoops. If you've had diffictuly with a child's hoop from a toy store, you'll be pleasantly surprised when you try a hoop that's appropriately sized for your body. Join the ranks of adults who found they suddenly can hoop, when they had never had success before. (We have smaller hoops also for kids, this event is for all ages!) It's free to participate, but please contribute if you can! Every little bit counts! The more we raise this year, the more hoops can be given to underpriveleged children around the world next year. At first glance, I wasn't sold on the World Hoop Day non-profit. People don't need hula hoops! They need food and shelter, right? But I started thinking about how happy hooping has made so many, including myself. If these children/families are powerless to change the terrible situation they live in, hooping could be the joyful escape they need in their life! What a blessing a hoop could be! A happy, engaging, healthy hobby. Life is about more than just surviving!!!
