Update on Hunger Strike/Report-Back from Solidarity Action

July 9, 2012 — Today, roughly 40 people rallied at the Georgia State Capitol in solidarity with the hunger strikers, who approach one month without food. Brandishing a large banner proclaiming support and home-made signs, the group staged on the plaza in front of the Capitol building and listened to Delma Jackson, wife of striker Miguel Jackson, give background and updates to the present situation.
According to Mrs. Jackson, one of the protestors has been in solitary confinement for 10 years, and another for 5 years. Her husband, Miguel, was beaten by guards with hammers 18 months ago, and was subsequently thrown into solitary. He has still not received medical attention for this.
