ISO Rally for RIT union drive
Primary tabs
Friday, March 27th, 2:00 pm outside Grace Watson Hall on RIT campus
Campus workers at RIT are in the midst of a campaign to organize a union. Now they are facing threats and intimidation from RIT management. Student and community supporters of the workers have called a rally to demand that RIT stop its campaign of intimidation and allow them to choose freely whether or not to join a union.
For the past couple weeks, RIT management has been calling workers into “captive audience†meetings, which are designed specifically to hinder unionizing. Management is breaking the National Labor Relations Act by threatening workers with their jobs, with layoffs, and with the loss of their tuition benefit.
RIT has a history of hiring union-busting law firms. For instance, 2006 tax documents show that RIT paid $862,004.00 to Nixon Peabody LLP, a law firm that boasts on its website that “Our attorneys have successfully helped employers of all sizes resist unionization efforts.â€
Join students, staff, and community supporters in the RIT Student Labor Alliance for a rally on campus this Friday at 2:00 pm.
