10 Day March will converge on Albany on April 30. <!--break--> April 21, 2003 [Auburn] Farmworkers and their supporters fighting for the right to collective bargaining, overtime pay, and other basic benefits are beginning their second day of a 180 mile state-long march in Auburn, New York Tuesday Morning. CITA (Centro Independiente de Trabajadores Agricolas (The Independent Farmworkers Center)), organized the March to build support for passage of the Farmworker Fair Labor Practices Act, which would end the exclusion of Farmworkers from basic worker protections. The Western NY leg of the 10 day march began Monday morning in Seneca Falls after a prayer service, and ended for the first day in Auburn New York at 5:30pm. There are 7 more stops planned along the way before the Western NY contingent will meet up with the Downstate contingent in Albany. Rochester Indymedia reporter, Matt Rosenburg, is photographing the march and continues to send in regular reports. Today a core of about 25 participants were joined, on and off, by supporters en route to Auburn. The 17 mile trek took the crew about 6 hours. Salvador Solis, an organizer with CITA, described the marchers as soldiers of justice "When I see the faces of the people here, I see the faces of soldiers. But these soldiers fight for justice for Farmworkers.(English translation)" http://www.ruralmigrantministry.org/march2003.html http://www.labor-religion.org/farmworkers_march03.htm
