a post-standard journalist covered spc's anti-invasion demo downtown outside the federal building this past tuesday (12/30). the next day's p-s carried no article on the demonstration, but there was a photo on p. A-7. its caption declared that "about 24 people participated" in the demo. in fact there may well have been more than 90 of us there.
item # 2 suggests letters to the editor. since israel's aerial attack on palestine, i think the post-standard has published relevant letters only once and the thrust of those was pro-israeli. i thought the p-s might publish at least several others soon after providing some "balance" -- but thus far no luck. i know the p-s has received at least one other letter from the gazan perspective (pasted below). i hope that peace-list folks will let the post-standard know their concern.
item # 11 suggests boycotts and sanctions, etc. against israel. additionally we need to publicize the fact that every year billions of dollars of u.s. military aid props up the israeli air and ground forces. mr. obama needs to hear from us that we don't want our tax money financing crimes against humanity -- whether committed by ourselves or by our proxies.
item # 18 suggests visiting palestine. i don't yet know the ins and outs of doing so yet, but even before the bombing ann and i were talking about joining a palestine delegation this spring. there's often a multiplier effect (in terms of work back home afterward) when several activists from the same community go together....

on the eve of spc's demonstration tomorrow noon at the federal building, it might be useful to review our august '06 statement on the occasion of the israeli aerial invasion of lebanon. it's below and at www.peacecouncil.net/statements/Is-Leb2.htm. the statement is called, "bombing people creates more terrorism." with only a few changes (e.g. gaza for lebanon), the statement could readily apply to the current crisis.

Account Creation Policy Change

Rochester Indymedia is now requiring editor approval for account creation.

We came to this decision after we had repeated spam posted to our website that caused difficulty with the website's functioning.  We will still have open publishing and keep our site as nonrestrictive and accessible as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.  As before, we will continue to be Rochester's grassroots news and education site.  Thank you for your continued support and remember, "Don't hate the media, be the media!"

Editorial Meeting Times / Locations

The Rochester Independent Media Center (R-IMC) is no longer meeting regularly.
We will set up meetings by necessity and appointment. Please contact us at rochesterindymedia@rocus.org.
Our home is still the Flying Squirrel Community Space at 285 Clarissa St. Occasionally, we hold meetings at RCTV located at 21 Gorham Street.
