Israel Launches Air Strike in the Gaza Strip
Primary tabs
On Wednesday while all eyes were on the results of the election Israel launched an air strike in the Gaza Strip killing at least six Palestinians. The Palestinians retaliated by firing a number of rockets into Israel. This was the first major strike since June when a truce had been agreed upon. What was the Israeli government punishing the Palestinians for? The Palestinians were being punished for inviting human rights activists to sail into the Gaza Strip.
In August, 2008, two boats carrying human rights activist broke the Israeli blockade and entered the Gaza Strip. The activists delivered humanitarian aid and attempted to expose the humanitarian crises in the Gaza Strip to the world. They were told their boats would be fired upon. One was told her boat would be blown up. When Jeff Halper, an Israeli human rights activist returned to Israel from the Gaza Strip he was arrested and charged for his good will. He will probably be involved in a speaking tour that includes Canada in January.
On October 28th a second campaign involving boats entering the Gaza Strip in violation of the Israeli blockade was launched. The crime of the Palestinians was having people sympathize with them and attempt to help them with their humanitarian needs.
