SCHEDULE A THE FOOD NOT BOMBS PRESENTATION THIS FALL http://www.foodnotbombs.net/speaker.html "Food Not Bombs changed my life!" Yasmin - Student University of Florida in Tampa "I am still in the afterglow of your visit. I was just told by a girl that this event was the best event she has seen hosted so far at goucher. thought i would let you know. happy thanksgiving." Anndal - Student from Goucher College in Baltimore "Keith, People can't stop talking about your presentation here at ASU!" Melissa - Student from Appalachian State University "hey keith, how have you been? after you visited millersville a lancaster food not bombs was put under way. so far we have had one event, which was this past monday. about 50 people were served and there were no complaints from the authorities. most of the food was either eaten or taken home by the people that came to our table." Rachel - Student at Millersville University of Pennsylvania THE FOOD NOT BOMBS PRESENTATION and WORLD PEACE CONFERENCE-MAY 2009 Dear students, faculty, and activists, Wow what a crazy month for Food Not Bombs. Thanks so much for all your support. You may have hear about the FBI raids on our houses in Minneapolis and the arrests of our volunteers before the Republican national Convention. An office we share in Berkeley was also raided and the most serious arrest at the Democratic National Convention was a Food Not Bombs volunteer from Massachusetts. I have known one of those arrested in the raid since he was 13 and his step father has been my best friend for thirty years. Fortunately our volunteers are vocally know for their dedication to nonviolence and government attempts to claim we are "terrorists" is sure to backfire. With the crisis of global hunger, war and poverty increasing the interest in Food Not Bombs is also growing. Our Food Not Bombs office at the Taos Peace House is getting calls and emails from all over the world requesting support and collaboration. Many students are already requesting we give our presentation at their school. While the corporate media maybe ignoring the remarkable efforts of our global grassroots movement I am honored to talk with activists from all over the world that are working to make a difference and can share a perspective you wont hear from most other public speakers. During the Food Not Bombs Presentation I share information about the history, principles and current actions of our movement. If your community isn't already active working for peace, social justice, and a sustainable future it sure will be after the presentation. If you already have organizations like Food Not Bombs group in your area the presentation will inspire more participation and dedication. I helped start Food Not Bombs in 1980. We were arrested many times for feeding the hungry. Amnesty International worked for our freedom and announced that all Food Not Bombs volunteers would be "Prisoners of Conscience" if convicted. Rather than stop our work it inspired a global movement. Food Not Bombs is growing more today than at any time in our history. We started "Food Not Lawns" community gardens in over 60 cities this summer. This spring aboriginal youth started a Food Not Bombs chapter in Alice Springs, Australia sharing meals at the foot of Ayres Rock in the Northern Territory. Along with their normal weekly meals, Food Not Bombs groups have also been providing food and logistics to climate change activists at protests from Reykjavik, Iceland and Santiago, Chile to Hobart, Tasmania. Food Not Bombs groups in South Korea have been feeding striking auto workers, Jakarta Food Not Bombs organized a Really Really Free Market sharing free meals, healthcare, books, clothing and other useful household items. Russian Food Not Bombs groups are organizing actions to stop the wave of Neo-Nazi violence and our volunteers in Israel and Palestine are busy planting olive trees along with feeding workers and immigrants. The Russian language edition of Newsweek Magazine ran a feature article about our movement in May. We provide meals in over 1,000 cites every week and reach thousands with our message of peace, hope and cooperation. I have the good fortune to work with activists from all over the world dedicated to building a peaceful, egalitarian future based on the principles that have made Food Not Bombs a strong global social movement. I would love to share the story of Food Not Bombs, our principles and all the inspiring actions our volunteers are taking. While the corporate media is painting a bleak future of war, poverty, elections and destructive commercialism the Food Not Bombs Presentation provides a global view of successful nonviolent direct action involving tens of thousands of activists who are making a difference. I spoke at nearly 60 colleges last year and the response was fantastic. The presentation helped start local Food Not Bombs groups and attracted new members to student clubs. The presentation will inspire people from your community to join you in working for peace, social justice and to protect the environment. I am currently working with the Taos Peace House and Food Not Bombs, helping them organize the World Peace Conference in May 2009. Millions of people are busy resisting climate change, poverty and corporate domination yet the media rarely reports on our progress. With activists contacting our office about the global food crisis, home foreclosures, the U.S. election and the World Peace Conference I have access to considerable news and information about community organizing and social change from movements from all over the globe. Please consider organizing a Food Not Bombs Presentation and inspire your classmates and community to work for positive social change. I would love to visit your school this semester and provide an alternative perspective sure to be inspiring and hopeful. Thanks for your interest. Sincerely, Keith McHenry Cofounder of the Food Not Bombs movement 575-776-3880 keith@foodnotbombs.net Schedule a Food Not Bombs Presentation http://www.foodnotbombs.net/speaker.html WORLD PEACE CONFERENCE http://www.worldpeaceconference2009.org
