Drew Langdon Announces Candidacy for 137th Assembly District
Primary tabs
On Friday, June 8th, the secretary of the Green Party of Monroe County, Drew Langdon, announced his bid for the 137th district's seat in the NY State Assembly. Around a dozen supporters gathered in front of the Ant Hill housing cooperative to hear Drew illustrate his vision for a decentralized democratic system that emphasizes cooperation and restorative justice.
Langdon calls for a radical overhaul of the economy, citing the need for workers' participation in decision-making processes and holding up the Mondragon Cooperatives of Spain and the Evergreen Cooperatives of Cleveland as workplace models. Communities, too, should play an active role in determining their future and funding needs, he says. A participatory budgeting process could allow communities in the state to directly control parts of the NY state budget to fund community projects.
"Casting a ballot is only the beginning of what democracy means," Langdon says--and he means it. His campaign encourages all of us to step up and get involved in making decisions in our city. Electing Drew is not just a vote for a politician; it is a vote of confidence in ourselves and our communities.
Mr. Langdon faces the highly contested Democratic nominee for the Assembly seat on November 6th.
