Help Challenge the Abuse of Palestinians
Primary tabs
A petition to IOF prosecutor Avihai Mendelblit, Lieutenant General Ray-Aluf Gabi Ashkenazi, IOF Spokesman Avi Benayahu, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, President Shimon Perez regarding the shooting of a blindfolded and handcuffed Palestinian man. Ashraf Abu Rahma who is 27 was shot while being detained by IOF (Israeli Occupation forces) after protesting the building of the apartheid wall which is being built through his village of Ni’lin. The planned path of the apartheid wall will annex large parts of the villages agricultural land.
Through a program that B'Tselem started where video cameras are given to Palestinians so they can video tape abuses by the IOF (Israeli Occupation Forces) and the Jewish Settlers, a 14 year old Palestinian girl was able to catch this human rights abuse on tape. The video clearly shows Ashraf Abu Rahma being shot while blindfolded and handcuffed. It also clearly identifies the IOF soldier who shot him. B'Tselem is an Israeli human rights group that documents abuses against Palestinians in the occupied territory. This shooting is consistent with the abuse that is regularly perpetrated against Palestinians in the occupied territory by the IOF. It also also consistent with the abuse Palestinians experience at the hands of the IOF when they protest the apartheid wall.
The Ni’lin Popular Committee Against the Illegal Apartheid Wall ask that an open and transparent investigation consistent with international standards be conveyed regarding this shooting of Ashraf Abu Rahma. Under law the IOF is suppose to report illegal acts such as this. Unfortunately the IOF did not disclose this this abuse till the video of it was released by B'Tselem about two weeks later. The IOF also tried to suppress the events that took place during his detainment.
