Syracuse: Help Take Foie Gras Cruelty Off the Menu

We need your help raising awareness about the suffering of ducks exploited for foie gras. At Farm Sanctuary, we are privileged to know three special ducks Kohl, Harper and Burton all of whom were rescued from a foie gras farm. These three constantly remind us why it’s so important to keep educating others about this cruel industry. When Kohl first arrived at our New York Shelter in Watkins Glen, he was barely able to stand, unable to eat on his own, and in respiratory distress due to his enlarged liver. For Kohl, Harper, Burton, and other ducks who once endured or are now facing the horrors of foie gras production, we hope to make changes one restaurant at a time. Every kind of help is needed to put a stop to foie gras cruelty whether you are able to write letters to establishments or letters to the editor, or attend a demonstration. The sick birds suffer from liver disease and have a mortality rate that is 20 times greater than that of birds raised on conventional duck farms. More than a dozen countries, as well as the state of California, have already banned this culinary cruelty. Activists across the U.S. and Canada have convinced a growing number of restaurants to drop this inhumane product from their menus, and more than 1,000 restaurants have signed our No Foie Gras Pledge. Help us convince others to do the same!
