Fur is Cruel!
Primary tabs
The following is going to be a short article regarding the latest anti-fur activism, right here in Rochester. I don’t have any immediate access to literature, so this will be more like a short compilation of my thoughts and a few statistics I learned along the way.
It’s important to protest fur year round because animals are being viscously murdered for their fur year round. If activists can get one person to stop and think outside the box then we have done our job as protesters. If we prevent one person from indulging in the bloodshed of fur, we have saved the lives of 40 animals (40 animals which would have been tortured to death in the name of vanity)! It’s important for people to remember that there are different forms of activism. Boycotting cruelty is the action step and is the most important step in directly targeting companies, which contribute to cruelty towards animals. Furthermore, one can write letters of disapproval to speak out against cruelty as well as writing letters of approval or thanks for positive changes (check out www.PETA.org for tips). Leafleting is a great way to get information to large masses of people; you can visit www.goveg.org to view different materials on numerous campaigns. Believe it or not- bumper stickers are a great way to inform people or encourage them to think before they buy or consume. Above all we need to find some way to inform people of the truth! Animal cruelty and exploitation occurs countless times on a daily basis. It’s time we really rally together promote solidarity and speak out against the mass amounts of animal cruelty that occurs on this planet.
The cruelty that occurs on fur farms is beyond comprehension. Every year 30 million animals are raised in captivity only to be killed for their fur. These animals are literally being skinned alive, if not electrocuted, drowned, or beaten to death. Animals raised on fur farms often go insane…. Wouldn’t you if you were confined to a tiny cage your entire life and saw loved ones being skinned alive??? You may ask why are they being skinned alive??? From what I can gather it’s less bloody. Thousands of other animals are captured in the wild using “leg crushing trapsâ€. Just the near thought of an innocent animal being caught in one of these cruel devices is heartbreaking. The animal is literally left there to suffer in pain for days before the hunter comes back to beat the animal to death. In many cases the animal will chew his or her limb off in a desperate attempt to flee. The number of “unintended†animals being caught in these traps is astronomical. Please check out the details at www.furisdead.com just be prepared… some of the material is graphic and incredibly heart wrenching.
Why anyone would want to contribute to such a cruel industry is beyond me. Today’s technology offers so many fur alternatives that there is truly no excuse for people who wear fur. I just can’t wrap my head around the idea that people think it’s ok to buy, wear, or sell fur… ITâ€S NOT OURS TO DO THAT WITH! Somehow people got it into their heads that we can control the animals and force them to do what we want for our own benefit, entertainment, cravings, and vanity. Did you know that most faux-fur is actually that of real animals? Buying fur trim is almost as horrific as buying an entire fur coat.
If you have old fur… now is your time to bring life back to the forty animals that were sacrificed to make it… HSUS sponsors a program that will use donated fur for wild-life rehabilitaters to use in the cages of injured animals. Please check out www.HSUS.com for more information. And remember fur is beautiful on its rightful owner!!!!
