Queer Radical Reading Group April 20th
Primary tabs
For those who could not attend the first meeting, there is exciting news. You have until this Sunday April 20th at 5pm to find a copy of Jeanette Winterson's "Written on the Body" and read some portion of it.
I realize that this could be the most perilous of tasks. If you see your radical peers eyeing the book sitting so isolated among its heterosexual counterparts on the library shelves, do not use force. Peaceful solidarity is key. Say, hello queer friend, I realize that we both desire that book, but why don't we think of a way of dealing with this dilemma co-operatively. Then while they stand there astounded by your desire for collective thinking, grab the book and run. Or share the book with your new (or old) friend. We are starting up a listserv and if you'd like to become a member (and I don't already have your information) you can email me at ebshap at gmail.com.
On a side note, those queer boys (as it is defined in a gender binary system or those in the fluid area in between) who are disappointed in the first book, remember this. 90% of life is showing up, the other 10% is societal privilege defined by race, gender, sexuality and social class. So come to the meetings and you can pick the books as well.
That being said. The first discussion meeting is this Sunday April 20th at 5pm. I hope to see everyone there!
