Stop-Loss Congress

STOP-LOSS CONGRESS, is a nationwide grass-roots coalition of more than
fifty broadly diverse organizations and thousands of private individuals, that has
quickly come together to organize and perform non-violent direct actions and civil
resistance in Washington DC on March 10, 11 and 12, 2008,
the start of the sixth year of the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq.
"Our organization is a true collaboration of different and various
people,
groups, and organizations representing individuals of all ages and persuasions,
acting together in a transparent, cooperative, and
non-violent
way to create serious change," said one of the team of organizers. "This March,
while tens of thousands of Americans in Washington, D.C., and
all over the United States will be participating in non-violent actions to protest
the ongoing occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, and involuntarily deployed U.S.
soldiers and innocent civilian victims begin another year of occupation, torture,
and murder, U.S. congress members will go on vacation (March 15th to 30th), ignoring
the killing and suffering they have enabled, supported, and financed."
"To intensify the irony, Congress has condoned a widespread stop-loss policy

soldiers to involuntarily extend** their tours and prolong the killing."

*The actions planned include:
*Monday March 10, and Tuesday March 11: the personal delivery of "official"
*stop-loss notices* to all members of Congress in their Capitol
Hill offices, notifying them that all of their LEAVES, VACATIONS, PASSES and HOME
VISITS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED until further notice. The people delivering these orders
will include active-duty personnel who are enduring
involuntary extensions of their tours of duty — who will tell Congress that
they, too, will have their tours of duty INVOLUNTARILY EXTENDED until every foreign
soldier and mercenary is out of Iraq, and home, and that when
*all the troops and "contractors" get home, then Congress can go home, and
no sooner.

*Wednesday March 12: nonviolent DIRECT action on Capitol Hill, to enforce full
compliance with the Stop-Loss Orders, and ensure that the members of Congress and
their staffs will not go home but remain to DO THEIR
DUTY, and immediately end the funding of the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan,
and that No member of Congress goes home until ALL THE TROOPS
COME HOME.
