RAW member Polly and others brutalized by DC Cops
Primary tabs
hey everyone,
I just spoke with RAW member Polly Miller, who has been working in Washington, D.C. for the past few months. Polly and local rochester film maker Kevin Berends were involved in the civil disobedience at the Sept 15th March on the capitol building.
After staging a die-in within the "Free speech zone" alloted by DC police, protesters jumped the barrier and aimed to continue their protest on the steps of the capitol building. After cops let many climb the barrier and even helped protesters over it in some cases, they cracked down hard.
Polly was tackled by DC cops, slammed into the pavement and her hands tied up behind her back with plastic zip ties. After zip-tieing Polly, a DC cop pushed her over onto her side, dislocating Polly's shoulder.
Other activists fared the same fate, with estimates of up to 12 people put into the hospital. Polly was discharged from the hospital at 5am this morning, drugged up, no clothes but the ones she wore into the hospital, in 50 degree cold. Luckly she had her cell phone and she was told she could not wait inside the hospital while waiting for her ride.
Another activist and musician some of you may be familiar with, Son of Nun http://www.sonofnun.net/ was similarly manhandled and arrested. He is still currently detained in police custody. No one knows why he hasn't been discharged.
I spoke with polly moments ago and she is doing well, although on some serious pain medication and she wanted to share with everyone her story and to let everyone know whats really going on in the nation's capital.
Video of the scene will be forthcoming.
