(March 20, 2003) About 20 students from Rochester’s High School of the Arts were the first to take to the streets to protest the U.S. bombing of Iraq. They walked out of school at about 10:30 this morning and marched to Channel 10 and then through downtown to the recruiters’ office on Main and State Sts.
The protesters said that over 60 student activists had intended to participate in the march; however, the Principal, Mr. Bona discouraged the walkout by threatening to call their parents.
At around noon the students formed a chain in front of the recruiters' office causing officials to lock both their outer and inner doors.
Under the No Child Left Behind Act their school is required to release school records to military recruiters.
