Halliday, former UN Assistant Secretary-General, Head of the UN Humanitarian Program in Iraq 1997-98, and member of the Dr. Dhafir Support Committee Advisory Board, will speak about the effects of the U.S. and U.K. sponsored UN sanctions on the Iraq. He resigned after 34 years with the UN because the policy of sanctions against Iraq undermined not only the UN’s own charter, but the Declaration of Human Rights and the Geneva Convention as well. He said:<br /> “We are in the process of destroying an entire society. It is as simple and terrifying as that. It is illegal and immoral.â€<br /> <br /> Speaking with Denis Halliday:<br /> <br /> Joel Cohen, one of Dr. Dhafir’s defense lawyers at trial, who will speak about government strategy in the prosecution of Dr. Dhafir’s case and<br /> <br /> Magda Bayoumi, a community activist will speak as a member of the local Muslim community.
