Dear @ Comrade:
First off, please excuse the form letter. I promise future communications (if any) will be personalized as far as possible.
Secondly, if this message has reached you and you are NOT an anarchist (and have no interest in exploring that possibility), please pass this on to anyone eligible (see next paragraph), whom you think MIGHT qualify, and/or ignore this for yourself.
I am writing to suggest a get-together –at this point, I don’t want to call it anything as specific as “conferenceâ€â€”of anarchists from an area we’ll call “upstate New Yorkâ€. (You appleknockers know who you are!). I believe that there are plenty of us scattered throughout the State, isolated and sometimes feeling far from where things are happening. You may even be a lone individual in your town; the only person who knows what a Bookchin or a Chomsky is.
I am speaking on behalf of my group here in Rochester (at this moment known as “Rochester Anarchist Forumâ€, but soon to morph into something else). Although we have fair numbers for a town our size, we also feel that our work would be enhanced by the feedback and support of others, and we are eager to lend that same support to others. We also feel that the formation of anarchist community is a necessary part of building a large, vital anarchist movement, and for the maximization of anarchist practice, and face-to-face meetings are the only way to build community.
Our own very rough idea of this—thing—is for a weekend of serious discussion, ribald and pagan play, and maybe some political action. We have also discussed what kind of workshops might be good. But rather than get into that here and now, we just want to sound you (and your group, if your have one) out about what ideas you might have and—first things first—what time frame might work for you; we’re thinking August, making tenting a housing option, for one thing.
Get back to us either at the above address or at:
rochester-anarchists@googlegroups.com.
Yours for a Song,
