Kennedy & Waxman: Big Gift to Tobacco Pesticide Cartel
Primary tabs
Prohibition Rides Again...but NOT against Chlorine/Dioxin, heaps of Pesticides, and even Radiation in typical smoking products. It is so much easier for corporatized officials to Prohibit natural, public-domain plants...as ever.
It is impossible to copy/paste the six pages of a PDF summary of Rep. Henry Waxman's bill (House version of Kennedy's) to direct the FDA to "regulate" what he (and Big Cig) calls "tobacco", but here's the link:
http://www.house.gov/waxman/pdfs/summary_tobacco.pdf
For more, Google up "Waxman FDA tobacco" and "Kennedy FDA tobacco".
Here is just one part of the summary...the Writing On The Wall that we ARE headed for an all-out Prohibition of yet another public domain plant, one that inconveniences pretty much the same harmful industries that created the currently still devastating prison-filling, crime-causing, socially-disrupting cannabis prohibition.
As it was in Reefer Madness I, it starts with the demonization, the falsified "science" and "medical" reports, the taxes, and then...off we go.
"Sec. 907---Product Standards.
.... Congress reserves the power to ban all cigarettes, all smokeless tobacco products, all little cigars, all cigars other than little cigars, all pipe tobacco, or all 'roll your own' tobacco products, or to reduce nicotine yields of any product to zero."
Note that this would prohibit use of "cigarettes"...no matter what is in them, tobacco or other unnamed, unstudied material...in movies, tv programs, U-Tube clips, or theatrical events. A Free Speech issue as well? (Is the ACLU still accepting cig money?)
Nothing in the bill touches on the 400 plus or minus pesticides registered for tobacco use, no matter how inevitably deadly alone or in combo, nor is there anything about the radiation from those still-legal phosphate fertilizers. Look up "GAO tobacco pesticides" and "Polonium tobacco", for starters.
Congress, including "wholesome" Rep. Waxman (from one of our most pesticide-soaked states), apparently "reserves the power" to permit continuation of this mass, virtually-secret, consumer poisoning with non-tobacco adulterants.
This bill, packaged as if "concerned" for health, unjustifiably hands a multi-billion dollar "get out of jail...and civil court" card, to pesticides (pharmaceuticals and oil) and chlorine interests in general, and their insurers and investors...some of those insurers already Outed as big time owners of cigarette manufacturing holdings. Search "PNHP tobacco insurance" etc for that still dormant scandal.
