ROCLA HONORS AMBASSADOR MAGDA ENRIQUEZ ON MARCH 16th
Rochester Committee on Latin America (ROCLA) will hold its Annual Rice & Beans Dinner on Friday, March 16th, 6:00 PM, Downtown United Presbyterian
Church, 121 North Fitzhugh Street, Rochester.
At this year’s dinner, ROCLA will present its International White Dove Award to Dr. Magda Enriquez, Ambassador-at-Large of the Republic of Nicaragua.
Ambassador Enriquez has been a Sandinista militant since 1974. In the
1980’s, she served as Ambassador-at-Large and Special Envoy of the President
of Nicaragua. These positions took her around the globe as liaison for the
Nicaraguan government. Now that the Sandinista party is again in office,
President Ortega has appointed Dr. Enriquez to her previous position as
Ambassador-at-Large, with special emphasis on foreign organizations. Dr.
Enriquez will come to Rochester directly from Washington, D.C., where she
will have had a formal meeting with officials of the Organization of
American States.
Michael Argaman of Rochester will receive the local White Dove Award from
ROCLA. For many years Mr. Argaman was Convener of the Ciudad Hermana
(“Sister Cityâ€) Task Force of Metro Justice of Rochester. At present, he
serves as Treasurer of Metro Justice. He has led many delegations to
Nicaragua, and has worked tirelessly for peace and understanding between the
U.S. and Nicaragua.
Tickets are $25 to $15 per person. (No one is turned away.)
