This new chapter of Rochester Food Not Bombs began in late August. In the summer, and early fall, we served a meals and/or distributed food to shelters (such as House of Mercy on Hudson and St. Joseph's House of Hospitality on South) every other week. Currently, we are accepting invites to serve at progressive events and will restart our regular cooking schedule in the spring.
We have been granted access to St. Joe's Kitchen space. This space is wheelchair accessible and everyone is welcome to cook. We generally get our produce through donations from local and regional farmers at the Public Market.
Food Not Bombs is an effort to feed anyone who is hungry, while simultaneously acting to empower folks through the use of consensus and democratic forms of organizing. Food Not Bombs started as anti-nuclear street theatre in Boston and has since spread to be a global movement.
Some Food Not Bombs Principles: *Food is a right and not a privilege* *We recover food that would otherwise go to waste and serve vegetarian and vegan meals* *We make decisions using consensus process* *We are non-violent* *We are opposed to war and militarization*
